The pattern, called the "Tobacco Leaf Pattern," is based on a late 18th-early 19th century Chinese vase in the Metropolitan Museum's collection. The original cup-shaped vase was made in China for the European market. It is made of hard-paste porcelain and decorated with enamel paints in a variation of the tobacco leaf or passion flower pattern.
This plate was made for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
