The tradition of the elf door comes from the north... all year round, but especially in the run-up to Christmas, a little elf moves into the house and lives behind a elf door above the skirting board. He helps with the preparations for the festival and occasionally gets up to mischief. The little elf is nocturnal and only comes out of his hiding place when everyone is asleep. The elf door must never be opened! Because if someone sees the elf, he loses his magic power. He usually communicates with the children through letters that he puts in the mailbox next to his door.

... but sometimes the elf feels like baking, for example, and creates a mess of flour and other baking ingredients in front of his door at night.
